On sunday, 9:42 a.m, a powerful eartquake, magnitude-6.9, struck KANAZAWA, japan. It killed at least one person and injuring 170 others as it toppled buildings, triggered landslides, cut power, interfered with phone service, broke water mains and snarled public transportationand and sparked a small tsunami along the coast. The tsunami was measured 6 inches and hit the shore 36 minutes later after the quake.
Later, the quake showed buildinds violently shaking for 30 seconds. Some buildinds were collapsed, windows of shops were, streets cluttered with roof tiles and roads with cracked pavement. Some said that inside their house was a mess, with everything smashed on the floor. And many was injured. Many of the injured were knocked down by the shaking or hurt by falling objects and broken galss.
And again, in october 2004, a magnitude-6.8 earthquake hit northern Japan, killing 40 people and damaging more than 6,000 homes. It was the deadliest to hit Japan since 1995, when a magnitude-7.2 quake killed 6,433 people in the western city of Kobe.

terrorism

Task: On your own personal blog, discuss your views on terrorism. How is it affecting you - are you afraid? What will you do about this matter? (150 words)
After reading these two articles, i think that, terrorism does not only affected me. It also affects my family members, friends and relatives. It affects me because, if there is terrorism, i need to be more careful when i go out. Not really safe when i am outside in public. Because, we do not really know where the terrorist is hiding and doing.
I'm afraid of terrorism because terrorism is a scary thing and terrorists are scary creatures. They are cruel, selfish and scary. Cruel in the sense that they kill innocent people when ever, where ever they want. Selfish in the sense that, they do not think about others. And scary in the sense that they do all this scary things.
Look out for the terrorist. Call police immediately if i see the terrorist. Every one need to do this so that our country would be free from the terrorists - cruel, scary and selfish creatures

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT FROM YOUR READING AND RESEARCH?
I have learnt that polar bears have black skin under their furs to store heat from the sunlight. Their furs are hollow. Their fur colour is yellow because of the reflection of the sunlight or the oil stained because of oil spilling in the sea. They feeds on seals. They are hunted for their paws and furs for Chinese medicines and coats from their furs. During short summers, they use their stored fats to keep them warm. They spend most of their time roaming on ice, finding mates, hunting for their own food and denning for them to keep their self warm. Their webbed paws helps them in their swimming. Their population have decreased over the years, they are almost going to be extinct if hunting, global warming and greenhouse effects continues.They are also harasses by the photographers and tourist that wants to get closer to them.

HOW HAVE YOUR PERSPECTIVES CHANGE DURING THE COURSE OF YOUR READING AND RESEARCH?
Before reading all this article, i did not have much knowledge about the hunters but after reading it, i gained much knowledge about them. I Thought that they can anyhow anywhere build an igloo but i was wrong, they need to be very careful on where they build it because of the current in the sea. If they build on the wrong place, the whole sea ice and the igloo will crack which is due to the current flow of the sea water. I was only aware that the polar bear hunt for food and was not aware that they
roam on the floating ice and they find their mates. I was also not aware that they are annoyed about the photographers and tourists until i read the article.

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT THE CURRENT SITUATION?(YOUR FEELINGS/ OPINION/ COMMENTS)
I feel that the hunters are very cruel. I feel that we should all take a part in helping the polar bears from being extinct by reducing, reusing and recycling. Reduce the number of trees being cutted down, the amount of things being burnt because all these will produce carbon dioxide.

What have i learnt from the reading and research?

After reading this article from the website, i have learnt that the polar bears spend most of their times roaming on the floating ice, finding mates and hunt the seals for food. The article states that the polar bears will maybe be extinct in 2050.

how have my perspectives change during the course of my reading and research?

Before reading it, i was only aware that they hunt for food and was not aware that thay roam on the floating ice and they find their mates.

What are my thoughts about the current situation?( my feelings/ opinions/ comments)

I think that the polar bear will extinct faster.

How can i help in anyway to play a part to improve the current situation?

Help in reducing, reusing and recycling. Help to reduce carbon dioxide produced and global warming.

what are my suggestions for further improvement? how will this make the world a better place?
Reduce carbon dioxide so that the air will be less polluted and this can save the world's environment. Reduce the cutting of trees because when plants dies, they produce carbon dioxide which will pollute the environment. Reduce burning of fuels because heat will be trapped in the atmosphere and the world will be very hot.

Polar bears

I have learnt that Polar bears are among the largest predators in the whole wide world. Their fur colors turns from pure white to a yellowish colour resulted from the sunlight or staining by oil from the sea by oil spilling. Their skin, nose and lips are black in color to trap heat from the sun. Their fur is thicker than any other bears. Their furs even covers their feet, for warmth and for friction on the ice.
They are highly depend on thicker ice in the region as it can withstand their weight, polar bears spend much of their time on ice hunting for foods, mating and denning for their homes and to keep them warmth. Pregnant polar bears need to eat a lot in the summer and fall in order to build up sufficient fat reserves for surviving the denning period.
Climate change, causes the loss of thick sea ice and it thins the thick ice. If the ice are thinned, it will not be able to carry the weight of the polar bear. And there will also be lesser and lesser sea ice for the polar bears. Loss of sea ice leads to higher shortage of food. This causes the population of the polar bears to decrease a lot as there is insufficient food for all of the polar bears living there.
This can eventually lead to conflicts between people and bears and lethal removal of the bear. Illegal killing of bears also remains another factor causing their decline.

They should stop all the illegal killings of the polar bears as the population is decreasing and it will cause tham to extinct.

what have i learnt from from the reading and research?

I have learnt that the polar bears have black skin to obtain the heat from the sun. Polar bears are carnivores, they feed on seals. Their webbed paws allows them to swim. During the short summer, they feed on berries, their stored fats and in some areas they feed on humans garbage. The population of the polar bear have decreased because of greenhouse effects, global warming, climate changes and hunting. They are harassed by the photographers and tourist that wants to get closer to them.

Before i read this article, i did not know that polar bears feed on seal i thought that polar bears feed non fishes. I also did not know that polar bears are annoyed by the photographers and the tourists that wants to get closer to them.

what are my thoughts about the current situstion?(my feelings/opinions/comments)

After reading the article, i feel that polar bears should not be hunted for their paws for medicines or furs for coats because they are already under population. Therefore i think that hunters should stop hunting for polar bears of the under population of the polar bears. If hunters continues the activity of hunting the polar bear, polar bear will get extinct very fast.
